that article was appallingly disgusting on so many levels
- equating a higher level of testosterone with unattractiveness- first of all, why is more testosterone magically a bad thing? Are women automatically less attractive because they don’t have a certain amount of estrogen, which is supposed to give those “soft feminine features”. Society needs to stop putting physical/biological features on the gender binary, especially for the purpose of lourding one over the other
- higher BMIs: If the BMI within itself has been proven to be junk science and not a real indication of anything, then why bother including it in this study? What does a BMI number really show? Jack shit. So to use it to compare the physical attractiveness of the races means even less
- “Africans having more mutations amongst them, which decreases attractiveness over time”- Oh really now? That’s just a loaded statement within itself. It doesn’t acknowledge how those mutations came into being: inter-tribal mating, cross-continental mating, colonization, slavery, ect. So basically, you’re blaming a race’s physical unattractiveness on facts they did and didn’t have control over.
I just can’t sometimes. I mean really, why bother to conduct studies like this in the first place. How does this help improve understanding of different cultures? How does this help anything at all?

Something to think about every time someone brings up ” attractive” as a challenge to Women of Color

Whose objectivity are we talking about here…. Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, House and Garden??? All told I am positively struck by the fact that within such a preposterous study or idea, Black Women and Men subjectively consider themselves attractive compared to some nebulous objective standard.
This is the kind of dangerous study that has people suffer low self esteem to the point of committing suicide or self mutilation. We have seen that play out in a very public way on these inter-waves. So who is ‘THE’ standard - Kate Moss??? What do you have to do to yourself to be attractive to anyone but yourself??? Starve yourself??? Take collagen injections to have lips like black women or in your buttocks to fill out your sagging jeans to be booty-licious like Beyonce??? What…????
When it comes to “attractiveness” in my opinion the only -ivity that matters is the subject. If you settle for anything else you will be confused beyond belief by the weekly changing standards. As you can see Psychology Today is only confirming a fashion industry standard that most PEOPLE cannot “meet”. I guess the writing is interchangeable between those two spheres.
If your boobs and behind are perfect then something is wrong with your eyes or their colour. If your eyes are perfect then something is wrong with your hair. If your abs are perfect then you have too much hair on your chest. If your hair is perfect then there is something wrong with your nose…. and on and on.
I would challenge the people who write this kind of stuff or make these kinds of judgments to post pictures of themselves for public scrutiny.

This is the most ridiculous…I can’t even… I’ve always felt like I was less attractive because I am a black girl. It has taken me YEARS to finally accept that I am beautiful no matter what my race is! Fuck a BMI. Fuck mutations. It’s not about what race you are. It’s about confidence! ug!!H!@HO@EJ..i’m very upset.
